Privacy Policy

Effective October 8, 2026

Data controller: Memotale — legal entity and address to be confirmed (TBD). Contact: support@memotale.app.

Memotale turns memories told out loud into a life book shared with family. This policy explains what data we process, why, with whom, and how to exercise your rights.

Data we process

  • Account: e-mail address, display name, Apple or Google sign-in identifiers.
  • Audio recordings of memories and their transcripts.
  • Photos attached to passages and generated illustrations.
  • Book content: passages, chapters, dates, places, people mentioned, versions.
  • Family contributions: memories, reactions, comments, answers to detail requests.
  • Purchases: subscription and in-app purchase status sent by the App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment details.
  • Push notification tokens and reminder preferences.
  • Technical logs and product analytics (PostHog), never the content of your memories.

Purposes and legal bases

  • Providing the service (contract): transcribing, dating, placing and writing memories, sharing the book, exporting.
  • Managing subscriptions and purchases (contract, accounting obligations).
  • Security, abuse prevention and report moderation (legitimate interest).
  • Improving the product from aggregated usage statistics (legitimate interest).

Artificial intelligence

Your audio and text are sent to AI providers only to produce your book. Memotale does not use your memories to train AI and uses these providers through their business API offerings. The AI must not invent anything: when information is missing, a detail request is sent instead. Every AI-generated image is labelled as an "illustration".

Processors

  • Convex — database and server functions
  • Cloudflare R2 — private storage of audio, photos and exports
  • Mistral AI (Voxtral) — transcription of recordings
  • ElevenLabs — fallback transcription and audio narration
  • Anthropic — dating, placing and writing passages
  • fal.ai — on-demand illustration generation
  • OpenCage — geocoding of mentioned places
  • Expo (push notifications) — notification delivery
  • Apple and Google — sign-in and in-app purchases
  • Lumail — sign-in and service e-mails
  • PostHog — pseudonymous product analytics

Some of these providers are located outside the European Union (notably in the United States). Transfers rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an equivalent mechanism.

Sharing

A book is visible only to its owner and the members they invite. A memory marked private stays visible to its author only. We do not sell any data.

Retention

Data is kept while the account exists. When a book or the account is deleted, the related content and files are erased. Recordings you added to someone else's book stay in that book. Purchase and cost records are kept in anonymised form for accounting obligations.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, port, object to and restrict processing of your data. From the app you can export all your data (ZIP archive sent by e-mail), delete a book or delete your account. For any other request: support@memotale.app. You may also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.

Children

Memotale is intended for people aged 16 and over. A minor may tell stories in an adult's book.

Changes

We will announce any significant change in the app or by e-mail.
